A sad thing happened today. I Googled ‘pond staring’. And nothing really came up.
Which means it’s not a real thing – if Google doesn’t say so.
I couldn’t decide if I should ditch Google for being so out of touch, or start my own movement to raise the awareness and search-ability of pond staring.
I chose to start a movement.
Pond Staring – The act of staring into the water, to let the troubles of this world melt away, until you can become more of who you are meant to be.
Pond staring can be done while:
Sitting on a bench, dock, lawn chair, tailgate of a pickup, rock, lawn or log. Or while rowing a boat, casting a rod (no fish catching required), skipping some stones, or swirling water with a stick. The greatness of pond staring is, there are no real rules about how you do it.
I think there should be some rules about how often you do it. Especially if you’re a pond owner.
There is such power and magic in pond staring. If you have immediate access to your pond, it really is a crime not to do it. A crime I committed for many months when we first lived at our pond. I was ‘busy’. Busy getting ready to pond stare. Busy getting ready to enjoy the water that we had dreamed of living beside. Busy creating the perfect conditions for pond staring. This, my pond loving friends, is a HUGE violation.
So put down that weed eater, the hose, and those gardening tools, put away the sweeper, and the dust cloth. For today, just take some time to cozy up to that beautiful pond of yours and see if it can speak to you a bit.
